American Activist Angela Davis To Speak On Race And Caste

American activist Angela Davis, 72, who was a prominent participant in the Civil Rights Movement, will address two public events in the city. On Wednesday, December 14, Davis along with Gina Dent, an associate professor of feminist studies at the University of California Santa Cruz, will deliver a lecture titled ‘Abolitionist Feminism’ at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences (TISS). On Friday, December 16 at K. C. College, Davis will deliver the eighth Anuradha Ghandy Memorial Lecture. The lecture, which is held every year in memory of communist leader Anuradha Ghandy, is titled ‘Black Lives, Dalit Lives: Histories and Solidarities’ and will deal with the similarities between race-related issues in the US and the Dalit movement in India.
