Hush-Hush: Notes From The Mommy Network’s Handbook

Forty Red Bangles will be at The Mommy Network Pop-Up.

Forty Red Bangles will be at The Mommy Network Pop-Up.

On The Mommy Network, close to 2,000 women seek information and advice related to raising a child daily. Which is a good day care centre? From where do you get a reliable nurse? Which is the best pre-school? From where can one hire a clown for a child’s party? These are some of the questions posed every day on the closed Facebook group for new mothers living in Mumbai managed by entrepreneurs Shreya Lamba, Kiran Amlani and Tejal Bajla.

The partners, who launched the group in September 2014, have deliberately restricted access; only an existing member can invite someone to the network, after which one of the founding members will screen the person before adding them. The idea is “to create a safe space for like-minded moms to get well-researched and authentic tips and responses from other mothers”, said Shreya Lamba. On Wednesday, September 7 and Thursday, September 8, Amlani, Bajla and she will hold The Mommy Network Pop-Up at AntiSocial in Khar, a curated exhibition and sale of kids’ clothes, furniture, toys and linen that will feature labels such as Mal The Store, Nee & Oink, Forty Red Bangles, PodSquad and Little Kokoro. For the sake of mothers not yet on the group, we asked the trio questions that first-time moms frequently post:
