Surreal Deal: View Photographs By Man Ray At Tarq

Some of the most iconic images associated with the Dada and Surrealist movements in the early twentieth century were by Man Ray, the American artist and photographer who lived in Paris. Photographs like ‘Glass Tears’ are immediately familiar even among viewers unaware of the movements. Colaba art gallery Tarq will exhibit Views of the Spirit, a series of 45 photographs by Man Ray, which has been brought to the city by the Mondo Galeria in Madrid, where the show was first exhibited in 2014, and Matthieu Foss, the co-founder and director of the Focus Photography Festival. The show includes works such as ‘Glass Tears’; ‘Les champs délicieux 5’, a ‘rayograph‘ that the photographer made by placing objects on photosensitive paper and exposing them to light; and ‘The Gift’, a photograph of his famous sculpture of an iron with 14 thumbtacks. Here are five images from the show, which will be on display from Friday, May 26 to Saturday, July 1.
