Watch News Anchor Ravish Kumar’s Stirring Award Acceptance Speech
Ravish Kumar, NDTV’s Hindi news anchor known for his deadpan critiques of the BJP government, received the first Kuldip Nayar Award for Journalism on Sunday, March 19. Named after veteran journalist Kuldip Nayar, the award was handed to Kumar at a ceremony organised by the Gandhi Peace Foundation in Delhi. In an acceptance speech flecked with poetic metaphors and delivered in his typically flat style, Kumar described the grim social and political scene in the country today. Speaking in Hindi, he said that cemeteries and crematoria are not the only theatres of death. Death is also that which prevents one from speaking freely. He bashed news anchors by calling them the greatest policemen of free speech as they delight in destroying voices of opposition against the establishment.
