Watch Stars Under The Sky: SteppinOut Movie Nights Will Be Launched At Novotel This Weekend

SteppinOut Movie Nights.Based on news reports published at the end of last year, the city’s only drive-in theatre won’t be ready until the end of 2017. But there’s now another chance to watch a film under the stars and unlike this series of shows, it doesn’t require you to camp overnight. Bangalore-based event company SteppinOut is bringing its popular SteppinOut Movie Nights to the city this weekend. Word has spread and a handful of tickets are left for the screening of Pulp Fiction (1994) by the beach-facing poolside of the Novotel in Juhu on Sunday, March 26.

SteppinOut, which specialises in food festivals and film screenings, decided to hold its first movie night here following the overwhelming response the events received in Bangalore where it has held 12 screenings so far. The organisers said they got a number of messages on their Facebook page asking when they were planning to launch the nights in other cities. “People have started understanding the value of open space, of sitting down with a nice breeze with preferably no noise and an open sky,” said Sushen Kakkar the head of SteppinOut Movie Nights.

Bean bags and lawn chairs will serve as seating at the Novotel, which will offer a special menu of snacks such as popcorn and nachos, but not, Kakkar assures, at five-star hotel rates. The pricing will be lower than or on par with that of cinemas and there will also be a full bar enabling audience members to, just like in Amsterdam, enjoy a glass of beer in the theatre. The advantage of holding the screening at a five-star hotel, where SteppinOut has organised most of its events in Bangalore, is that the venue already has some of the requisite licences, said Kakkar.

Though they’re yet to finalise plans, SteppinOut aims to conduct screenings in Mumbai every two months, at spots across the city. The movie selection, Kakkar said, will mostly include films that aren’t usually shown on TV and could range from horror flicks to thrillers to even Bollywood hits. In Hyderabad where they will hold a movie night on the same day as the Mumbai launch, for instance, they’re showing Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara (2011).

SteppinOut Movie Nights will screen Pulp Fiction on Sunday, March 26 at 5pm at the Novotel, Balraj Sahni Marg, Juhu Beach, Juhu. Tel: 022 6693 4444. Get directions here. Tickets priced at Rs499 per person are being sold on Nearbuy.com. For more information, see the Facebook event page
